Relocating black rhino, Eastern Cape, South Africa - it may not appear less stressful to move them this way (for the rhino anyway) but believe me it is. In this huge relocation from a National Park in South Africa to another undisclosed location, black rhino were darted from the helicopter and once tranquillised, lifted by the same helicopter from the impenetrable bush the short distance to another waiting vet team, where they were woken, and placed into trucks for the tar road journey to their new home. The alternative option of trying to extract them by hand, road, foot, from the dense bush would have been far more stressful than a short sleepy flight. Worth pointing out that this extraordinary team had zero injuries, zero fatalities during the entire move of these amazing creatures. @natgeo @everydayextinction and here @thephotosociety

“La rana deslizadora” (Agalychnis spurrelli La rana deslizadora (Agalychnis spurrelli) es una especie de anfibio anuro perteneciente a la familia Hylidae. Se extiende extensamente en las tierras bajas húmedas y las porciones más bajas de zonas de Costa Rica del sudeste y al sudoeste, a través de Panamá o de las tierras bajas pacíficas de Colombia a Ecuador del noroeste. Su nombre común (deslizadora) se deriva del muy peculiar modo de locomoción que emplean. Cuando estas ranas tienen prisa para llegar hasta el suelo o están huyendo de un depredador, hacen una caída libre desde su percha de las copas de los árboles. A medida que caen, extenderán ampliamente sus dedos de manos y pies palmeados, ralentizando su caída. Los estudios han demostrado que las ranas en caída libre desde una altura de 4,5 metros alcanzaron casi un ángulo de 45 grados de pendiente y viajaron hasta 4 metros en horizontal durante su caída! Las ranas deslizadoras arbóreas son nocturnas y normalmente sólo bajan al nivel del suelo durante su época de apareamiento. En este momento, se reúnen grandes congregaciones de ranas en estanques temporales, inundados con agua de lluvia. Las reuniones pueden numerarse en miles y un gran número de ranas son literalmente cubiertas a través de la vegetación de 1,5 hasta 10 metros sobre el agua. Esto ocurre generalmente durante o después de una lluvia pesada. La cría comienza por la noche, pero a veces continúa hasta que la luz solar.
